Editorial Trainee post for the British Journal of Dermatology
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join the BJD as an editorial trainee for a two-year post, suitable for clinically active medical students through to dermatology specialist trainees/residents.
This will be a chance to be involved in an active social media team, which aims to enhance the reach and engagement of dermatology research published in the BJD. In addition, there will be opportunities to gain insights into how publishing works and to obtain training in the peer review process and evidence-based dermatology. The Editorial Trainee will participate in the reviewing Image Gallery submissions and will join the BJD Journal Club team, linking with authors to help them produce PowerPoint presentations of their work. Publication ethics training will be provided, including attendance at the annual BJD team meeting and training day. “Hands-on” experience of article handling will be gained by visits (virtual in the current climate) to the BJD editorial office and publisher’s office.
The two-year post is not a paid post, but carries a stipend of up to £2,000 per year to cover travel, training costs and courses that are chosen in conjunction with editorial mentors. There is no geographical restriction to the applicant, but they must be able to attend regular meetings virtually during the UK working day. Applicants who have completed their dermatology specialist training may not apply.
The appointment process requires 1) a cover letter 2) the applicant’s CV, 3) a 500 word essay explaining why the candidate has applied and what they hope to gain from the experience. The deadline for applications is 13th January 2021, with a start date of 10th February 2021.
