The Market Forces Factor and its use in the National Tariff

The Market Forces Factor (MFF) is an estimate of unavoidable cost differences between healthcare providers, based on their geographical location. Each NHS organisation an individual MFF value.

In 2019/20 the NHS revised the calculation method and data used for the MFF, assigning new MFF values to all organisations. The new values are being phased in over a five-year period in equal steps.
