- No, PV is not strictly speaking hereditary. In other words, it is not passed from generation to generation.
- But some people have genes that makes them more susceptible to developing PV.
- It is likely that there are additional factors (called ‘triggers’) that start the disease off.
- These triggers are not fully understood (see ‘Does anything make pemphigus vulgaris worse?’).
