>> Clinical Assistant

(Also called Part Time Medical Officer)

  • Responsible to a named Consultant
  • Should work in a fully supervised capacity
  • Employed on a sessional basis
  • Maximum number of sessions should be 5
  • 3½ hour session (NHD) which includes travelling
  • Travelling time – Maximum of up to half an hour to and from a session (Total 1 Hour)
  • Most work mainly in General Practice but some work exclusively in the speciality
  • Some work for a limited period of time with aim of improving expertise in the speciality, others remain within the team for years
  • Annual leave – 6 weeks per annum
  • No incremental pay scale
  • Paid study leave and travel expenses at the discretion of Medical Director
  • Some Trusts will pay towards course fees for a Diploma
  • Experience in CA grade can sometimes lead to employment as a Staff Grade or Associate Specialist
  • Annual job plan meeting with named Consultant or Clinical Director to discuss personal development and any changes needed to job

CLINICAL ASSISTANT IN DERMATOLOGY

DUTIES OF THE POST

This is a Clinical Assistant post attached to the Dermatology clinic under the supervision of The Consultant Dermatologists.

The clinic is held each X Morning/ Afternoon  from X am to X.

There is a wide variety of clinical material in this busy Outpatient Clinic giving an opportunity to learn all aspects of dermatological practice.  The successful applicant will see new and follow up patients. There will be the opportunity to discuss diagnoses and management throughout the clinic with other members of the Team.

There are facilities for minor surgery, cryotherapy, phototherapy, dermatology day treatment and patch testing

This post consists of X sessions and the current pay scale is £78.88 per session.   There is an entitlement to annual leave, which is 32 days per annum pro rata.  Paid study leave and travel expenses are at the discretion of the Medical Director.

An annual job plan meeting with the Dermatology Consultant or Clinical Director will be arranged to discuss personal development and any changes needed to the post.

The post holder will be expected to attend departmental clinical governance meetings (held three monthly). This will provide 15 hours of continuing professional development and audit per annum.  Clinics are cancelled on dates when the meetings are held.

The post holder will be expected to support the collection of data via the departmental clinical information system (Infoflex).
