Results of new survey into the British sunscreen habits to be released

Eight out of ten people are failing to adequately apply sunscreen before going out in the sun, according to a survey carried out by the British Association of Dermatologists to mark Sun Awareness Week (9th-15th May).
The poll found that 80 per cent of us don’t apply sunscreen before going out in the sun and then shortly afterwards. This is the approach recommended for three key reasons of which the public should be aware: to make sure that the product is fully absorbed before skin is exposed to sun, to help reduce the chances of areas of skin being missed, and to ensure a thick enough layer is applied.
The survey also found that 70 per cent of people fail to reapply sunscreen every two hours as recommended.

Sun Awareness Week 2015 Event

This year, the BAD, sponsored by La Roche-Posay, will be hosting an educational mole check on May 9th and 10th at Westfield, Shepherd's Bush, London, to celebrate the climax of Sun Awareness Week.

Consultant Dermatologists and Skin Cancer Nurses will be on hand to teach you how to look out for the signs of skin cancer and best protect yourself in the sun. There will also be a UV photobooth, where you can see the invisible damage that the sun's harmful UV rays has already done to your skin, and learn how to prevent further damage. Sun Awareness Week 2014

In 2014, the BAD’s Sun Awareness Week, sponsored by Laboratoires Bioderma, the French dermocosmetic brand, saw Olympic heroes Louis Smith and Greg Rutherford swap their Team GB kits for the famous red shorts as they become our Sun Awareness Week Lifeguards. Check out the video from the day here . 


Thousands of people showed up at the Bluewater shopping centre for their chance to have their photo snapped with Louis and Greg against the white sand and blue sky background of a pop-up beach. The images were then turned will into a postcard complete with all the necessary advice for sun safety, in addition to some free sunscreen samples.
