A national teaching day is aimed at all DermSoc's, medical students and trainees interested in Dermatology.

Our first National Day of the year looks at the link between dermatology and other specialties. We have an exciting range of speakers including the highly esteemed Dr Susan Burge (author of the Oxford Handbook of Medical Dermatology and OBE for services to dermatology) on medical dermatology, Professor Roderick Hay (Chairman of the International Foundation for Dermatology) on tropical dermatology, and lectures on psychodermatology, the GUM/dermatology interface, and cultural and historical aspects of skin and tattoo. The programme also includes a useful and informative CV boosting section dedicated to research and electives, featuring BAD prize winners presenting their stellar experiences and ideas.

The BSDS are running a brand new suturing course for Junior Doctors on Monday 9th February 2015, at St. James's University Hospital, Leeds.  

This course is primarily aimed at FY1 & 2, SHOs and CMTs, however, the course may also be of interest to acute medical trainees, surgical trainees and new dermatology registrars.  

The course will consist of lectures on the important aspects as well as lots of supervised practical work on pig skin, including anaesthetic injection, superficial, deep, continuous and interrupted sutures. There will be the opportunity to try more advanced techniques and chat to dermatologists about careers in skin surgery.

 The BSID are pleased to extend an invitation for interested clinicians to attend the BSID Annual Meeting under a day delegate rate on Monday 27th April for the 2015 BSID Clinical Translational Day.

Attendees of the Clinical Translational Day will gain access to the meeting’s scientific programme for the day including the THESIS session in the morning and the Skin Club Symposium in the afternoon. Eczema will be the subject of a recent advances talk and also mentioned as an early concept for UKTREND collaborative research.

The focus for the skin club will be on the role of microbes in maintaining normal immune responses and their role in mediating inflammatory skin disease such as eczema and psoriasis, featuring eminent speakers: Professor Yasmine Belkaid (USA),Dr Jeremy Webb (UK) and Professor Harri Alenius (Finland).

The day’s scientific programme will be complemented by a poster presentation for which abstract submissions are currently being considered.

Accepted poster presentation abstracts will be published in the online edition of the CED

This workshop will consist of hands-on practical sessions with the opportunity for one on one tuition in skin surgery skills, alongside lectures in the different aspects of skin surgery. Teaching would be provided by an experienced faculty comprising of nationally recognised experts in skin surgery.

DERMDOC is a one - day medical dermatology course organised by the British Society for Medical Dermatology (BSMD) aimed at Foundation Year and Core Medical Training doctors.

Dermdoc’s aim is to improve your knowledge of the management of acute and common skin problems on the ward, and the important skin signs of systemic disease.

The course will also include oral and poster presentations. Further details on abstract submissions (submission deadline 7th August 2015) will be made available to delegates upon registration.

The BSDS Trainee Day offers a chance for registrars to improve and update their skin surgery through a variety of lectures, discussions and workshops. The course will be led by a range of experienced surgeons and speakers from across the UK and gives a unique opportunity to interact with them, discuss cases and ask questions in a small group setting. This is an educational experience not to be missed!
